What a class looks like
1. Warm up and stretch
Every class is led by a trained certified VR fitness instructor who guides, coaches and motivates you the whole way. It starts with a short stretch and warmup to get your body ready.
2. Get strapped in
Your VR trainer helps you into the safety harness on our VR treadmill. The harness holds you securely, and your trainer stays right beside you the whole time.
3. Move
Walk through forests, mountains and beaches so the scenery is never boring. Then get your heart pumping with cardio, fitness moves and fun games like volleyball, boxing and dancing. Games and activities come in low, medium and high intensity, so you can work at the level that's right for you.
New to VR? Start with 15 to 20 minutes while your body gets used to it.
More experienced? Go 20 to 45 minutes, with a 5-minute rest and a water break every 15 to 20 minutes.
4. Cool down and review
Stretch out and see your heart rate, calories burned and active minutes from your armband tracker.
What to wear and bring
Sweatpants or comfortable clothes you can move in, and a water bottle. We provide everything else: fitted VR fitness shoes with cushioned insoles that track your foot movement, and a fresh pair of comfortable socks every class that are yours to keep. Shoes are sanitized and deodorized after every session, sweat towels are provided, and all equipment is cleaned between participants.
Who can join
Ages 16 and up. Our treadmill fits participants up to 6 feet 7 inches tall and up to 286 pounds.
How to pay
$125 per class. VR Fitness can be paid through an OPWDD Self-Direction budget (Community Classes) or privately.
Common questions
Will VR make me dizzy or sick?
Vast majority of participants will feel zero ill effects. True VR beginners can start with short 15 to 20 minute sessions, and you can take the headset off and rest at any time.
What if I'm unsteady on my feet?
The harness keeps you secure while you walk, and your trainer helps you on and off the treadmill and stays beside you the whole class.
Will it give me a headache?
Unlikely. We fit the headset to you and have a protocol of regular breaks and water every 15 to 20 minutes. If anything feels uncomfortable and needs adjustment, inform your VR trainer.
What if I feel nervous?
You go at your own pace. Your trainer explains every step before it happens, and you can pause or stop at any time.
What about seizures?
VR headsets carry a manufacturer warning for people with a history of seizures or epilepsy. If that applies to you, please check with your doctor before booking.
Is it safe for my health condition?
If you're not sure, ask your doctor first. We're also happy to answer questions before you book: clientsupport@obriencmc.com.
