What you'll learn

VR hardware and tracking
Headsets, controllers and sensors, and how the system knows where you are and where you are looking.

Safety and setup
Setting up your space, boundaries, passthrough view, and how to use VR comfortably and safely.

Controllers and input
Buttons, triggers, hand tracking and voice commands, and when to use each one.

Interaction and navigation
Grabbing, pointing, menus, teleporting and moving through 3D space.

Hands-on simulations
Apply what you learned: build your own virtual environment, talk with AI avatars in simulated settings, explore real places in virtual travel, and complete step-by-step task simulations.

Who it's for
Anyone 14 and up who wants to understand virtual reality and use it with confidence: first-time users and adults who want a structured, instructor-led way to learn new technology.

How each class works
One-on-one classes are one hour: a 15 to 20 minute lesson, 20 to 25 minutes of hands-on practice, then a 10 to 15 minute review of what you demonstrated. Or join the two-hour group class on Fridays from 2-4pm (up to 10 participants), where everyone works on the same lesson. Your VR trainer tracks your progress so each class builds on the last.

What to wear
Comfortable clothing.

How to pay
$86 per hour. One-on-one classes are one hour ($86). The Friday group class is two hours: $172 for the full class, or $86 if you stay one hour. VR Technology can be paid through an OPWDD Self-Direction budget if approved (Community Classes) or privately. A written course curriculum is available for your fiscal intermediary on request.

Common questions

Is this a class or free play?
A class. Every session has a taught lesson, a hands-on exercise and a review, and each skill is demonstrated on the equipment before you move on to the next one. A written curriculum is available on request.

What will I actually do in VR?
Depending on the lesson: build a virtual room, talk with an AI avatar, visit real places in virtual travel, or complete a step-by-step task simulation.

What's the difference between one-on-one and group classes?
One-on-one is fully focused on your pace. In the two-hour Friday group class (2-4pm, up to 10 participants), everyone works on the same lesson and you learn from watching others too. Both are $86 per person, per hour.

Can we focus on something specific?
Yes. If there is a simulation or skill you want to spend more time on, tell your VR trainer and we'll build it into your lessons.

Do I need to know how to use VR?
No. The class starts with the basics: putting on the headset, setting up your space and using the controllers.

Will VR make me dizzy?
Most people feel fine. We start with seated and standing activities and short sessions, and you can take the headset off any time.

What about seizures?
VR headsets carry a manufacturer warning for people with a history of seizures or epilepsy. If that applies to you, please check with your doctor before booking.
